Sore sex

For the last three years I've found sex incredibly painful. I had tests which showed I had a staph aureus infection, so I took antibiotics and thrush remedies but it kept recurring. A gynaecologist told me I had a coil infection, so I had the coil removed and took three more lots of antibiotics and more thrush remedies. But I am sore and dry, and sex is getting painful again.

The best option is to visit a genito-urinary medicine (GUM) clinic for a full check up. They can examine your discharge under a microscope to see if the antibiotics have caused a bacterial imbalance called bacterial vaginosis (BV). BV can cause soreness, dryness and discomfort and can also cause irritation for a male partner due to the changes in acidity that they cause. The clinic will quickly put you at ease and check you for other problems such as the staph aureus infection or recurrent thrush. To find your nearest clinic phone your local hospital.
