Pain from retroverted uterus

by Dr Sarah Brewer

question
I've experienced severe cramps a bit like period pains. After being checked out by a doctor I was told my womb tilts backwards instead of up. I was told it can cause some problems and I would like to find out more about it. The doctor is unsure why I am getting this pain.

answer
A tilted womb - also known as a retroverted uterus - affects an estimated one in five women, so it is surprisingly common. It does not usually cause symptoms but can sometimes result in period pains and/or pain during intercourse. This gives a good overview.
