Hyperglycemia and weight loss

by Dr Sarah Brewer

question
I'm 20 and a year ago I found out that I had hyperglycemia. About five months ago I became even more tired than usual, I started sweating a lot which I never had a problem with before, and lost about 15-20 lbs and am still losing weight for no reason.

I think it might be a thyroid problem but it seems that it usually happens to women over 30.

answer

Hyperglycemia is associated with diabetes, and this would certainly fit in with your dramatic weight loss. Do see a doctor straight away to have your blood glucose levels measured, as you may need urgent treatment.

Don't delay. Contact your doctor as soon as possible.
