What chemo's really like - one woman's story
Getting the rads Monday to Friday I got the 'rads', as we called it for short. I spent more time getting undressed than I did on the table! My last one was on second of Jan 2004. It's funny how that date has stuck in my mind. I did get a slight sunburn effect from the rads, but they give you cream to use, which you have to slap it on really good.
Once my 'sunburn' had gone, I got my prosthesis for my breast and I felt so good! I was not lopsided and it looked real too. Nobody would have known the difference. At bedtime I would make my hubby laugh by saying there was more of me on the dressing table at night than in bed - my wig on my stand and my boob in its bag!
My hair started growing back soon - coming back thicker and curly! In summer of 2005 I saw my surgeon and I asked about reconstruction. There were a few types to have and I opted for reduction of my good boob and to have the chemo side re-shaped. I went in on the 9th of August and came home on the 11th, no probs. It has been a bit tender but in time it will settle. I was a 42D and I am now a nice 38C. I can now see my feet.
Battling cancer was almost a year of my life but in saying that...I have a life now!
Edd, who has been married to her husband Kev for almost 19 years, has completed her treatment and had reconstruction, as of October 2005
