Stop hot flushes without HRT
What are the alternative treatments to HRT? I recently had a mastectomy and Im taking Tamoxifen. I need something to help counteract hot flushes.
So that nothing will interfere with the action of the Tamoxifen, other hormone treatments are avoided. The side effect of hot flushes is a very common feature. Most helpful hints are merely directed to all of the things that you can do to manage your life around hot flushes, like food, clothes, temperature changes, etc., rather than being able to stop them.
Other helpful treatments are evening primrose oil and Pyridoxine tablets, which can still be used. Foods that contain phyto-oestrogen, such as soya bean products, whole grain fibres and flax seeds, can also help. Your doctor may also feel that a prescription of Clonidine (non-hormonal) may help to reduce the frequency and intensity of hot flushes, but even this can have some side effects. You may also want to consider complementary therapies, such as acupuncture, reflexology and aromatherapy.
