Reddish brown nipple discharge
A few days ago I noticed a reddish-brown discharge from my nipple. I have seen my GP who has referred me to the hospital. I am worried that I have breast cancer.
Try not to worry. A discharge is not a common way for breast cancer to show itself. Discharge is usually due to fluid collecting in an enlarged duct (known as duct ectasia) and can vary in colour from yellow-green, blue-milky to red-brown. Discharge is relatively common with increasing age but should not be ignored, and it is good that your GP has referred you for tests. Try to remain positive, however, as it is most likely to be due to a benign (non-cancerous) condition.
