Vagina concerns
I have a piece of skin about 1cm long hanging out of my vagina. It has been there for as long as I can remember. I'm reluctant to get intimate with anyone as am so embarrassed.
Most women have bits of skin hanging down in this area. These are the remnants of the hymen, the flap of skin that protects the vagina in early life. It can break down on its own or when first making love.
Another possibility is that the flap of skin is one of the inner lips (labia minora) that surround the vaginal entrance. One of these is often longer than the other and may seem to hang down. This is perfectly normal and is designed to cross over the other lip to provide a better 'seal' during standing or sitting.
Having worked in a woman's clinic I can promise you that I have never seen two women whose anatomy in this area is exactly the same - most have their little unique differences, which are absolutely nothing to worry about. It is part of what makes you, you!
