Mirena coil is making sex hurt
I had a Mirena inserted six weeks ago as treatment for heavy, painful periods. Since then, I've been finding sex painful. I wondered whether having the cords cut higher would stop the pain? I was due to have my six-week check-up but the doctor can't fit me in for another four weeks. I don't have a high temperature and haven't noticed any odd discharge. Should I ask to be seen quicker due to the soreness or is this normal?
I would wait the extra four weeks to give things a chance to settle down. The cords are usually left relatively long because if they are too short they can 'spike' your partner during sex. Ask your doctor whether the coil may have slipped out of position as this might account for discomfort during sex. It might be an idea to abstain from penetrative sex for a couple of weeks and then see if things have improved.
