Abortion - how to get advice
Where can I find information on getting an abortion? I want to get a termination, but it needs to be done in a day. I can't stay overnight because it would mean telling my mum, who would make me have the baby. Please help me. I'm only sixteen and desperately need help.
You must be very anxious and frightened about the situation. Do try and find an adult who can be a 'friend' to you and give you support. Think very carefully about not telling your parents - they may surprise you by being understanding and supportive.
All terminations of pregnancy are now carried out on a day basis, but the biggest problem will be obtaining the necessary anaesthetic consent. A form has to be signed by an adult, preferably one of your parents.
You should be able to talk to your doctor. He/she will not tell anyone without your permission, and will help you think through your choice of action. You can also visit a local Family Planning Clinic. or Marie Stopes centre. if you know of one - they, too, will help.
I do hope that you will be able to come to a decision and I wish you well.
Don't forget that when all this is over - you must arrange for contraceptive treatment for the future.
