Clomid: does it cause breakthrough bleeding?
Is it normal to have any breakthrough bleeding while taking Clomid?
Clomid (clomifene citrate) is a synthetic drug often used to treat certain types of infertility. Breakthrough bleeding is a possible effect of Clomid but it is important to rule out other possible causes, such as infection or inflammation of the cervix (eg due to Chlamydia).
Women on Clomid can also experience the following side effects, although most are uncommon or even rare:
- Dizziness
- Hot flushes
- Headache
- Breast discomfort
- Visual symptoms, such as spots, flashes or blurry vision
- Abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting
- Depression
- Insomnia
- Heavy periods
- Endometriosis
- Weight gain
- Rashes
- Hair loss
- Ovarian hyperstimulation
- Convulsions
If you are concerned you should consult your own GP and talk to him about any symptoms.
