Sore caesarean scar
I had a caesarean section six months ago. The scar is still very sore at times and there is a fair amount of swelling above the scar at both ends. Is this normal?
It can take a while for an abdominal scar to settle down, although after six months you would usually expect any soreness and swelling to have disappeared. If you are concerned, ask your GP to check it for you - especially if you have also noticed any discharge, either from the wound or vaginally. Swelling above a caesarean scar is sometimes due to poor muscle tone, and it may help to do some abdominal exercises - you will probably have been given a leaflet on these while in hospital. If not, the midwife attached to your GP surgery should be able to supply one for you.
