Here's one we made earlier - a childhood icon back for 2010

Is it a rocket or it is a plane? Well either actually, depending on your creative skills and imagination as soon as Mum handed over the empty washing-up liquid bottle!

From today, an icon of the John Noakes generation, the famous white Fairy dish-washing liquid bottle, will be back for a limited time to help celebrate the brand's 50th anniversary.

Since Fairy first became a regular feature in our hearts and homes in 1960, the famous green liquid in the white bottle has become synonymous with washing-up. Over the years, the original Fairy liquid has been further improved and so too has the bottle, with the white bottle last seen on our supermarkets' shelves [date tbc by GBU].

But for many of us the original white bottle still holds a 'special' place in our hearts and imaginations.

Fairy spokesperson Catherine Fairchild explains, 'We're often asked if the classic white bottle will be making a comeback.

'Our 50th anniversary seemed the perfect occasion to bring it back and give our loyal friends a gift from Fairy... but you may want to hold on to it this time as it could be the last time you see them!. Perhaps encourage the kids to use other empty packs and bottles for their creative play!'

The limited edition run of white bottles are just off the brand's production line in Essex, where regular bottle production was halted for a day. 'It was like a little piece of history passing before my eyes. If I had managed to get my hands on this many white bottles during my youth, I am sure I would have become a rocket scientist,' laughs production manager Gil Rabbie.

Along with the original bottle, Nanette Newman, the original Fairy Mum will be helping to launch the 50th birthday celebrations. Nanette appeared in some of the brand's most memorable television advertisements during the '80s including a child patiently waiting for her mother to finish the bottle of Fairy so she could turn it into a rocket.

She comments: 'I loved making the Fairy ads, they were a big part of my life for a long time so I am delighted to be part of the 50th celebrations. Fairy has always been a kitchen essential for me, and now my daughters both use Fairy - it has been passed down through the generations like a favourite recipe!'

The Fairy tradition, values and performance have passed through the generations but now include an expanded range of liquids such as Clean & Care and AntiBac as well as dishwashing tablets. One element from the original white bottle has remained throughout: Bizzie, the strolling Fairy baby who makes an appearance on all of the products in the range.

So with the news that the iconic white Fairy bottle is hitting the supermarket shelves once again and, with just a limited number available, you'll have to be quick if you want to get your hands on this little piece of history and Blue Peter regular!
