How can I get rid of stubborn woodchip?

by Naomi Cleaver, design specialist and TV presenter

question
We are renovating our house and we are trying to strip the woodchip off the wall in our hall. However it has 2 layers of painted woodchip and another layer of normal wallpaper. It's proving to be extremely difficult to remove. Even a wallpaper steamer seems to be having little effect. Have you any ideas for removing it more quickly? It's the bane of my life at the moment!

answer
The best I can recommend is that you get a specialist decorator in. If you didn't want them to do the whole job you could get them in for a day and learn the technique.

Naomi Cleaver is the presenter of popular prime-time series on domestic design and decoration for Channel 4. Credits include 'Other People's Houses', 'Britain's Best Home' and Naomi's latest series for Channel 4, 'Honey, I Ruined the House'.
