Shape Crotch

Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 69 [77:83:89] sts.
Work 7 [8:8:8] rows dec 1 st at each end of every row.
55 [61:67:73] sts.
Cont without shaping until work measures 15 [16: 16:17]cm, (6 [6¼:6¼:6½]in), or length required from beg of crotch, ending with a ws row. Change to 3¼mm needles and starting with 1st row of 1x1 rib work for 3 [3:4:4]cm, (1¼ [1¼:1½:1½]in), ending with a ws row.
Cast off in rib.

To make up

Join back and front seams. Join leg seams, reversing sewing for turnbacks. Fold lower edge onto rs to form turnbacks. Join ends of elastic and then herringbone stitch in place to inside of waist ribbing. Pin out garment to the measurement given on front page. Cover with damp cloths and leave until dry. See ball band for washing and further care instructions.

Hat

Using 3¼mm needles, thumb method and C, cast on 93 [97: 109:121] sts loosely.
1st Row. K1, * p1, k1, rep from * to end.
2nd Row. * P1, k1, rep from * to last st, p1.
These 2 rows will now be referred to as 1x1 rib.
Work in 1x1 rib for 6 [6: 7:7]cm, (2½ [2½:2¾:2¾]in), ending with a ws row.
Next Row. Rib 6 [2:8:7], rib2tog, (rib 4 [5:5:5], rib2tog) 13 [13:13:15] times, rib 7 [2: 8:7]. 79 [83:95:105] sts.
Change to 4mm needles and working in M (throughout) proceed as follows:-
1st Row. Knit.
2nd Row. Purl.
These 2 rows will now be referred to as st-st (stocking stitch).
Working in st-st (throughout) cont until hat measures 13 [14:17:21]cm, (5¼ [5½: 6½:8¼]in), ending with a rs row.
Next Row. Purl to end inc 2 [0:6:4] sts evenly across row for 1st, 3rd and 4th sizes and dec 2 sts evenly across row for 2nd size only.
81 [81:101:109] sts.

Shape Crown

For 4th size only

Next Row. (K10, k2tog) 9 times, k1. [100] sts.
Work 9 rows more without shaping.
Next Row. (K9, k2tog) 9 times, k1. [91] sts.
Work 9 rows more without shaping.

For 3rd and 4th sizes only

Next Row. (K8, k2tog) [10:9] times, k1. [91:82] sts.
Work 9 rows more without shaping.
Next Row. (K7, k2tog) [10:9] times, k1. [81:73] sts.
Work 9 rows more without shaping.

For all 4 sizes

Next Row. (K6, k2tog) 10 [10: 10:9] times, k1.
71 [71:71:64] sts.
Work 9 [11:9:7] rows more without shaping.
Next Row. (K5, k2tog) 10 [10: 10:9] times, k1.
61 [61:61:55] sts.
Work 9 [9:7:7] rows more without shaping.
Next Row. (K4, k2tog) 10 [10: 10:9] times, k1.
51 [51:51:46] sts.
Work 7 [9:7:7] rows more without shaping.
Next Row. (K3, k2tog) 10 [10: 10:9] times, k1.
41 [41:41:37] sts.
Work 7 [7:7:5] rows more without shaping.
Next Row. (K2, k2tog) 10 [10: 10:9] times, k1.
31 [31:31:28] sts.
Work 5 rows more without shaping.

Work 3 rows more without shaping.

Break off yarn, run yarn through rem sts, draw up and fasten off.

To make up

Join back seam, reversing sewing for turnback. Fold rib onto rs for turnback. Using C, make a pom pom and attach to top of hat. Pin out hat to the measurement given on front page. Cover with a damp cloth and leave until dry. See ball band for washing and further care instructions.
