Cleaning fingerprints off walls
Our walls are painted cream and I've noticed a lot if dirty finger marks appearing on them. Probably the kids! I've tried to clean them but they just look worse. Does anyone know how I can keep them clean?

Buy washable paint - then when they get marks on them you can give them a washdown.

Sugar soap might work. It's safe and cheap (you can get it from most DIY stores) and that should remove the marks. It comes in packets of flakes and you just add them to water. It's also great for getting rid of nicotine stains on walls and ceilings.

Sugar soap is good for cleaning woodwork/walls prior to re-painting but I've found it takes the shine off paint and leaves it dull so I wouldn't recommend it as a general cleaner.
Also if your walls are painted with a matt emulsion it is more difficult to keep clean and tends to come off when washed. I always paint walls with a soft sheen emulsion which is far better to wash off marks and keep clean.

I've just bought a Magic Eraser. It's a sponge that you wet with water and it takes off all manner of marks - I even got black rubber from an army boot off a wooden door with no effort whatsoever. It took pen off a wall too. There are lots of different ones on the market but they all do the same thing. cl-tartmuffin
I bought the Flash one a couple of months ago and I used it on walls, doors, PVC windows -you name it I erased it! I would thoroughly recommend them.
