Decorating rules debunked
Myth 1: Create the illusion of space with white
White reflects light and creates a spacious feel, but it can also make a room feel cold, especially if it's north-facing. Soft neutrals like buttermilk, oatmeal or taupe are warmer and easier to live with, and don't be afraid to go a little darker than your instinct tells you. Try two or three coordinating shades together to give a modern, subtle, layered effect to a room.
