How to knit a baby santa suit

Go ga-ga over this knitted Santa outfit for babies. How can you resist? Make your own with this easy-to-follow pattern.

Materials

1 Pair of 4mm (UK8 - USA6) PONY Knitting Needles.
1 Pair of 3¼mm (UK10 - USA3) PONY Knitting Needles.
Waist length of 18mm, (¾in), Elastic for Trousers.
4 [5:5:6] Buttons for Jacket. Code S1004 available from Groves and Banks Stockists. Ring 01844 258130 for your nearest stockist or e-mail sales@groves-banks.com.
 

Hat To Fit an average size baby's head for the age indicated.

Tension

22 sts and 28 rows to 10cm, (4in) using Main yarn over stocking stitch on 4mm needles or the size required to give correct tension. Check your tension - if less stitches use a thinner needle, if more use a thicker needle.

It is essential to work to the stated tension to ensure success.

Yarn amounts are based on average requirements when specified tension and yarn is used.

Abbreviations

alt: alternate, p: purl, beg: beginning, rem: remain(ing), C: Contrast rep: repeat, cont: continue, rs: right side dec: decrease(ing) st(s): stitch(es) foll: following, tog: together, inc: increase(ing), ws: wrong side, k: knit, cm: centimetres, M: Main, mm: millimetres, 0: no stitches or rows, in: inch(es)

Circle the size you wish to make

Jacket

Back

Using 3¼mm needles, thumb method and C, cast on 55 [61: 65:71] sts loosely.
1st Row. K1, * p1, k1, rep from * to end.
2nd Row. * P1, k1, rep from * to last st, p1.
These 2 rows will now be referred to as 1x1 rib.
Work in 1x1 rib for 4 [4: 5:5]cm, (1½ [1½:2:2]in), ending with a rs row.
Next Row. Rib 7 [8:9:9], rib2tog, (rib 11 [12:13:15], rib2tog) 3 times, rib 7 [9:9:9]. 51 [57:61:67] sts.
Change to 4mm needles and working in M (throughout) proceed as follows:-
1st Row. Knit.
2nd Row. Purl.
These 2 rows will now be referred to as st-st (stocking stitch).
Working in st-st (throughout) cont until back measures 12 [15:18:23]cm, (4¾ [6: 7:9]in), ending with a ws row.

Shape Raglan

Cast off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 41 [47:51:57] sts.

For 3rd and 4th sizes only

Work [2:4] rows dec 1 st at each end of every row.
[47:49] sts.

For all 4 sizes

Work 24 [28:26:28] rows dec 1 st at each end of next and every foll alt row.
17 [19:21:21] sts.
Cast off rem 17 [19:21:21] sts.

Left front

Using 3¼mm needles, thumb method and C, cast on 26 [28: 30:34] sts loosely.
1st Row. * K1, p1, rep from * to end.
1st row sets rib.
Work in rib for 4 [4:5:5]cm, (1½ [1½:2:2]in), ending with a rs row.
Next Row. Rib 5 [8:9:7], rib2tog, (rib 5 [8:8:7], rib2tog) 2 [1:1:2] times, rib 5 [8:9:7].
23 [26:28:31] sts.
Change to 4mm needles, using M and working in st-st (throughout) cont until left front measures 12 [15: 18:23]cm, (4¾ [6:7:9]in), ending with a ws row.

Shape Raglan

Next Row. Cast off 5 sts, knit to end. 18 [21:23:26] sts.
Next Row. Purl.

For 3rd and 4th sizes only

Work [2:4] rows dec 1 st at raglan edge in every row.
[21:22] sts.

For all 4 sizes

Work 13 [17:15:15] rows dec 1 st at raglan edge in next and every foll alt row.
11 [12:13:14] sts.

Shape Neck

Next Row. Cast off 2 [3:4:4] sts, purl to end. 9 [9:9:10] sts.
Work 2 rows dec 1 st at raglan edge in next row AT SAME TIME dec 1 st at neck edge in every row. 6 [6:6:7] sts.
Work 7 [7:7:9] rows dec 1 st at raglan edge only in next and every foll alt row. 2 sts.
Next Row. P2tog. Fasten off.

How do I find the pattern for the hat? Pls advise - vsparks@cogeco.ca

I have been trying to print out this pattern, how to knit a Santa Baby suit and it only gives me the directions for the jacket nothing else. Also you don't have the information about how much yarn you need to make the outfit. How can I get all the information. Please hurry, I need it for Christmas.
