How to pull at a Christmas party

By Jane Hoskyn

flirting at a Christmas partyAs October turns to November, a girl's thoughts turn to Christmas parties. Oh, the horror. What to wear? What not to eat? Whom to snog? How to get out alive?

Don't panic. On the one hand, the festive season is a minefield of social torture. On the other, it's a big fat pulling opportunity. So stop worrying about the tough stuff and start thinking about all that mistletoe.

Whether you've been lusting after a workmate for months, or praying for your man-drought to end, this is your big chance. Get it right, and the morning after the Christmas party could see you waking up with something a lot tastier than a hangover.

Here's how - and how not - to make the most of the pulling season.

What to do

DO dress for success
If you want a snog, you must appeal to boys' basic instincts. This is not a time to be fashion forward. Heterosexual men with beer inside them do not find fur maxi dresses and brogues sexy. Hoik up your skirt, get your cleavage out and work it.

DO head for the kitchen
The kitchen is the best pulling patch at any house party. Here's where single people hang out chatting, and where everyone comes to fill their glasses. Once you've hooked a chap, you can adjourn somewhere more comfy.

DO pretend to smoke
The smoking area is another choice pulling patch. That 'cool kids together' vibe is the grown-up equivalent of behind the bike sheds. If you don't smoke, pretend. You'll freeze, but that's a great excuse to huddle close.
