Howsabout hat!?
So the snow and ice have FINALLY cleared but it was still beyond cold last Monday. I don’t like to blow my own trumpet BUT, being the trooper that I am, I braved the freezing winds to head down to the House of Lords for posh drinks and an awards ceremony.
Usually the person holding the clipboard at events such as these is blonde, female and full of enthusiasm, bouncy even. When I arrived at the House of Lords I was greeted by a policeman, who was neither blonde nor female, and certainly displayed no sign of bounciness.
Now, I had been told that I had a ‘plus one’ for this event, so I brought Ed along (we’re rarely seperated). The policeman insisted that there was no record of me having a plus one, and whilst I was free to go into the ceremony Ed had to amuse himself on the pavement outside: ‘if your name’s not down you’re not coming in’ type thing.
The queue to get in, once past the policeman, was long, and moving at a snail’s pace. I’m assuming they had to search us in case we had bombs in our bags, but it was FREEZING standing in that line. Ed de-camped to the nearest pub and all I could think of was a nice G&T. I did a 360 degree turn, thanked PC Plod and left. (Having your event in the House of Lords looks great on paper, but the reality is that your guests will be thoroughly fed-up by the time they actually reach their destination. Remember that the next time you’re planning a get-together PR ladies!)
All was not lost though as we headed over to east London for a cocktail party hosted by Katherine Elizabeth - hat designer to the stars. Now, I have to say that I’ve been desperate to wear a hat for AGES and my friends have let me down badly. There’s not been a whiff of a wedding or civil partnership for years and whilst I love the fact that we can all still go out and party till 3am on a school night, I really wish one of them would give me an excuse to purchase one of Katherine’s designs. There is a beacon of hope on the (not very distant) horizon. My friend Kate is getting hitched (in 2012!!! They can plan it in three weeks on Don’t Tell The Bride but whatever) so with this in mind I threw myself into some designer hat-trying on with gusto. Lily Allen has called Katerine Elizabeth ‘a genius’and the free-flowing cocktails ensured that each hat I tried on suited me better than the last. By hat number six (and cocktail number ??) I had found the perfect headwear for Kate’s wedding. I really don’t want to wait until 2012 to wear this little beauty again, so fingers crossed someone in my inner circle has to arrange a quickie wedding in the coming months, that’s not the best start to married life I know, but I’d really rather not be forced to go to Ascot this summer (snobs)!
I left the restaurant and had one (or two) for the road in the pub around the corner. I reallly shoulda gone straight home then I coulda had a nice calm stomach for filming the next day - which involved me, a cameraman, and a lipo-suction procedure. Note to self: do not watch someone have the fat removed from their stomach with a hangover. Noted.
Over and out,
RB xx
What’s Hot
This is a trend that I am LOVING. Glittery nails are HOT. I’ve spotted loads ofcelebs sporting them (Fearne Cotton to name but one). I have developed an addiction to Models Own polishes (I am typing this with my red-glittery fingers).
All the colours are fab and I love the fact that they add a bit of ‘outre’ to dull and boring work clothes. WARNING: The six for £20 offer is officially dangerous. I now have 18 colours and I want MORE! -->
Dannii Minogue, yes she has it all and now she’s only gone and won The X-Factor too (which I had previously assumed was rigged to favour Ms Cole). Hurrah for Dannii, I have a proper girl crush!!! If I can’t be her then I want to smell like her. I am currently dousing myself in this:
<-- Project D by Dannii - the parfum.
Love it! xx
