I lead an active lifestyle but I'd like to tone up
Like a lot of women in my situation I am keen to maintain a good level of fitness and am mindful of staying on top of my weight. Having said that, I've never been a fan of gyms and I struggle to find a time when one of my friends is available at the same time as me to attend a fitness class (I wouldn't want to go on my own).
I lead a fairly active lifestyle already; I rarely use the car, do plenty of walking and am constantly being kept on my toes by my son’s seemingly infinite reserves of energy!
I'm not looking to lose loads of weight but I am keen to ‘tone up’ in certain areas while hopefully shedding a few pounds along the way. I also want to have a bit of fun. In the past, the thought of exercise has conjoured up images of cross country running at school or muscle bound oafs strutting around at the gym (not my scene at all!) so the farther I can get from those two things, the better!
I have one tangible goal to aim for - I’m being a bridesmaid in July (yes, I know 35 is a bit old to be a bridesmaid!) - but my daily routine (as well as looking after Kieran I work two-and-a-half days a week as a Librarian), leaves me little spare time.
I’m hoping that my search for an exercise programme that I can fit into my schedule - and that I can also genuinely look forward to doing - will end with the Wii Fit Plus!
So far I have calculated my BMI, gone through the Body Test and had a look at some of the activities on offer.
Despite my nightmares about cross country, I've always secretly rated myself as a decent runner so I started off by having a go at the Basic Run, where you are guided round a countryside course by your ever-helpful trainer. The focus is on maintaining a regular rhythm rather than going flat out to get the fastest time.
I also had a bit of a laugh with the Hula Hoop game and will look to incorporate some Yoga exercises into my routine when I come to putting it all together.
I'll keep you posted...
