As a Blue Peter presenter Katy Hill had her fair share of adventures, but these days she faces tougher challenges - juggling full-time motherhood with a TV career. From Daybreak to day’s end, Katy and husband Trey have their hands full with a five-year-old daughter and toddler son. And there’s not a nanny in sight. This could get messy…

If you can’t say something nice...

So there’s a new mum at school.  And for some reason, every time she opens her mouth to me, she says something ridiculous!  Seriously – it’s like she doesn’t have that chip that tells you to keep your thoughts inside – she just can’t help herself!

It started when I had a dress on with 'Ooh, aren’t you cold…how could you” (a.k.a put your legs away!!), and then yesterday she looked me up and down at point blank range and said 'Nice to see you’re properly dressed for once!' (a.k.a you usually under dress!)  HOW RUDE!

Now – lets get something straight here.  I’m renowned for wearing shorts because I’m a summer bunny and I crave the sunshine.  And putting trousers on is basically admitting to myself that the weather has 'turned'. A sad day in my life.  So I keep my legs bare for as long as I can.

Also – and here’s the honest bit – having just turned 40 I know a day will come when I can’t (or rather shouldn’t!) bare my legs in public, for fear of scaring young children and young men alike!

So rest assured – while I can – I will!

And seriously – like our school-run mornings aren’t stressful and manic enough, without having to discover which gem 'Mrs Given Up' has in store for me!  Seriously, if I HAVE managed to drag the slightest bit of glamour into my morning of getting the kids up, breakfast for both, shower, lunch making, dressing all, checking homework, changing Akira’s nappy AGAIN….and arrived at school on time, surely I should be applauded by Mrs Given Up…not shot down! Ah the joys of the mummy mafia!

In other news this week! Spent Saturday evening at a charity event at RAF Benson, helping to raise money for them to build an outdoor play area for their toddler group.  These groups are so important for us mums to get together and stay sane. And the event was a great excuse for an evening out with lots of mums and jugs of cocktails! ;-)

Sunday we went for a walk along the river with the kids and decided to take a boat out on the spur of the moment.  SO much fun!  When Trey suggested it I could honestly think of nothing I felt LESS like doing, since it was a bit on the chilly side, but I threw caution to the wind, and I’m glad I did.  The kids adored it.  Akira kept saying 'Iggle Piggle Boat' which was very cute, and Kaya did a great job of steering us on a straight course! I spent the whole time with my heart in my mouth, even though they both had life jackets on and Kaya can swim.  And when Kaya said 'Mummy – why don’t you and daddy have life jackets on?' it was one of those 'touché' moments – there’s really no answer to that one!

AND Akira counted to five! I couldn’t believe it! I’m not saying it to boast, more to illustrate the second child syndrome! I always walk down the stairs with him every morning, and we count them…And then on the way home from school he just suddenly busted out his skills! I was so shocked. With Kaya I’d have known progress she was going to make almost before she even made it, but with Akira it's all more of a surprise.  There just isn’t the time in the day to hang off his every word in the same way.

I’ve had the best week with them both.  So much fun!  But pretty tiring since Akira’s taken to waking several times in the night for reasons best known to himself.  I think it’s the changing weather – I’m finding it so hard to get the temperature right in his room.

Heating on – less bedding…heating off – more bedding!  I’m trying the lot!

Needless to say I’m pretty exhausted, but light at the end of the tunnel -  I’m off to the Baby Show Trade at London’s Olympia on Monday.  I’ll be like a kid in a candy store!  LOVE seeing all the new products that will make our lives easier as mums! BRING IT!

This week I’m loving:

Elemis

www.timetospa.co.uk

It’s that time of year to hint away ladies! I’m already stupidly excited for Chrismtas myself and even more so now I’ve realised that Elemis have their gift boxes ready for Christmas!  I’m LOVING what great value they are.  You basically get double the products that you’d usually get for the money.  My favourites are: Jewels of Elemis (the Pro Collagen Marine Cream is amazing! Perfect for our tired mummy skin!) and their Elemis Superstars is great if you want to try out Elemis’ top products for face and body.  Start leaving the computer on displaying the above page! x
