It's a balancing act

Week two done and still loving it! Fitting in sessions on the Wii Fit Plus is becoming more part of a natural routine and just something that I find time for without thinking about it.

So this week what I have done that’s new? Well, I discovered that if I ever have to tightrope between two buildings to save my life I’d better get more practice in! The first time I had a go I managed about four steps before I plummeted to the depths below! The second time I did manage to get a bit further but ended up with the same fate. The third time I discovered that if I kept moving at a steady pace my balance seemed to sort itself out and I was doing really well until I had to jump over an obstacle on the rope - no chance, of course - and again I plunged to certain death. So, targets next week - jump over objects and land back on the rope and aim to get all the way across. Watch this space.

I also tried the Segway activity. Once I’d realised that I had to really lean forward to move I did quite well. The hardest bit was searching for the balloons to burst before a mole got them but great fun and I will add this activity to my favourites!

Talking of favourites, I have realised that I can design my own Wii Fit sessions by adding activities to a ‘my favourites’ file, so if I am in a hurry and just need a quick session I can go straight to activities I have pre chosen as favourites. Brilliant! The trouble is I have enjoyed most of the activities so far and I will have difficulty deciding on which ‘favourites’ to include!

Another activity I tried this week was snowboarding. For this the Wii platform must be turned sideways to simulate actually standing on a snowboard - something I have never done before in my life, by the way - but it was quite easy to pick up and great for improving balance. You can feel the muscles working with just small adjustments to posture. And I just love the graphics on all the different activities. Your Wii family members are always there to cheer you on and even participate in activities like the step or jogging sessions.

So another good week. Back to work this week but I do feel that, as these ‘exercises’ are such fun and so easy to fit into a daily routine, for the first time in my life I will be participating in regular exercise - and enjoying every minute!
