I've got love for you

By Ruth Boit on 02 Nov 2010 1 comment

I am really happy at the mo, I've got an 'isn't life good' spring in my step. I have no idea why, work is so busy I don't stop so I have no social life outside of work events and my love life is an absolute shambles. But, still, I can't stop smiling. I think the reason is this: my absolute favourite decade of all time, the 80s (regular readers will know this as I do have a tendency to ram that love down your throat) is CrazySexyCool again. Yipeee-I-yay!!!!

The proof of this is all around us, to start with, Back to the Future, probably the best film of the 80s EVER, was re-released to celebrate it's 25th anniversary. I was lucky enough to blag an invite to the press screening at the Empire cinema in Leicester Square. It was an absolute delight to see it on the big screen, finally.

As a young 'un, I only managed to see it on video. I watched the video over and over until I wore the tape, and my dad's patience, right down. Good times.

Note to Dad: A lovely PR sent me the Back To The Future DVD box set so we can do it all again. Hurrah!

More proof that the 80s are back, back, back: all our 80s faves are out and about on the scene again. Matt Goss singing show tunes at the Albert Hall (yes, he is still gorgeous and sweet with it); Jason Donovan releasing an album of 80s covers (I haven't met Jason yet, but when I do you'll be the first to know) - I LOVED Scott Robinson so much, My heart splintered into 10,000 pieces watching the Scott & Charlene wedding. I'm still picking up all the bits. Messy.

In other 80s news, Debbie Gibson (pictured) is releasing new material. Debbie Gibson! I wanted to be her for all of 1988 and 1989. She was purrdee, not cool you understand, but she was, and still is I'm sure, ADORABLE. Deborah-gibson.com

Will Belinda Carlisle (pictured above with me) release a new album too?

AND they're bringing back Dallas. Dallas! Can you believe it? Could there be a bigger nod to the 80s resurgence than that? Dallas was like The X Factor, but bigger. It couldn't be missed. The country shut down when it was being broadcast. I used to run home from youth club to watch it. Running, something which I didn't do before the Dallas years and I haven't done since (exercise is something that I mean to do but never have the time. I also never have the time to: pay my bills promptly, accurately calculate how many units are in those big glasses of wine and go to the dentist).

To close with a sad 80s tale, Sony are set to discontinue the production of Walkmans. This is sad because I didn't know they weren't already discontinued. Nobody told me you could still buy them, albeit in Japan and other far-flung places. I would have dumped my ipod for a Walkman if I'd known. Walkmans were cool, and the headphones doubled up as Ear Muffs. What could be better than that? Answer: not much. ;-)

Until next week girlies,

RB xxx
