What is RSS?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is an easy way for websites to distribute content. The content is sent to you rather than you having to visit the site to see if there is anything new.
This saves you time in two ways. Firstly because you aren't visiting websites looking for new articles and secondly because the RSS feed contains just links, headlines and brief synopses of the new information so downloads to your computer quickly.
To use RSS feeds you need to get a program called a News Reader. This will display the RSS feeds from your chosen websites on your computer. There are many News Readers to choose from - some free, some at a little cost. A popular free News Reader is Active Web Reader.
Once you have a News Reader it is easy to subscribe to a feed - just click the orange box labelled "RSS".
Your web browser will then take you to a page of XML code. Just take the url of that page and copy it into News Reader and it will do the rest.
Now click on the orange box to go to the iVillage RSS feed -
You can also add iVillage UK feeds to your My Yahoo page. Simply click on the My Yahoo icon and you'll get iVillage UK news to your own My Yahoo page.
