Serves as a national umbrella group for organisations throughout the UK run and controlled by disabled people. Runs five residential centres based in East and West Sussex and Leeds, Cramlington and Hull, providing a full range of support facilities for people with physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries and autism. Also runs six projects dedicated to the long-term care and rehabilitation of those suffering from a traumatic brain injury, as well as outreach houses with on-going therapy and care support.

A self-help organisation with members throughout the UK, it assists and encourages disabled people towards independence and greater mobility. Membership is open to disabled people with mobility problems, with discounts and concessions available from organisations such as the RAC and ferry companies.

Provides impartial advice on equipment for independent living, runs a helpline and mail enquiry service, dealing with over 40,000 enquiries annually. Provides a wide range of information and fact sheets on specific items of equipment and produces information in printed form, CD ROM and via the Internet. Has an equipment centre for people to try items of equipment, with trained staff to assist. Also runs training courses on various aspects of disability.
