Jewelled Starfish Biscuits

Children will love these biscuits - they're particularly popular if you're planning to take a picnic to the beach!
 

Ingredients

  • 175g soft margarine, plus extra for greasing
  • 225g light brown soft sugar
  • grated zest of 1 unwaxed orange
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 350g self-raising flour, sifted, plus extra for dusting
  • 200g milk chocolate candy buttons

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to //gas mark Grease three baking sheets. Cream together margarine, sugar and orange zest. Beat in the egg, add the flour and knead on a lightly floured board to a soft dough.
  2. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to m thick. Cut out starfish shapes from the dough, using a sharp knife. Place on the baking sheets, spacing well apart to give the biscuits room to spread. Lightly press the candy buttons into the dough to decorate the starfish.
  3. Cook in batches towards the centre of the oven for - minutes. Leave to cool, then remove from the baking sheets. Store in an airtight container.
