Knit a three-in-one scarf
These scarves use one pattern to create three great effects! Working with different yarns and colourways as below will make your scarf a truly individual piece that will make a wonderful Christmas gift.
One colour
You will need:
- Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
- Redcurrant (17) 2 x 50g/116m balls
- A pair of 4Vmm needles
Two colours
You will need:
- Bergere de France Ideal Dinosaure (225.241) 1 x 50g/125m ball
- Bergere de France Ideal Belladone (223.751) 1 x 50g/125m ball
- A pair of 4Vmm needles
Three colours
You will need:
- Debbie Bliss Cotton DK Pale Blue (09) 1 x 50g/84m ball
- Debbie Bliss Cotton DK Pale Brown (19) 1 x 50g/84m ball
- Debbie Bliss Cotton DK Light Pink (16) 2 x 50g/84m balls
- A pair of 4Vmm needles
Abbreviations
K: knit
k2tog: knit 2 stitches together
P: purl
psso: pass slipped stitch over
sl 1 kw: slip 1 stitch knitwise
yf: yarn forward
st(s): stitch(es)
Cast on 33 sts using 4Vmm needles.
Row 1 (RS): K1, * K1, yf, K3, sl 1 kw, k2tog, psso, K3, yf; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 2: and every alt row Purl.
Row 3: K1, * K2, yf, K2, sl 1 kw, k2tog, psso, K2, yf, K1; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 5: K1, * K3, yf, K1, sl 1 kw, k2tog, psso, K1, yf, K2; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 7: K1, * K4, yf, sl 1 kw, k2tog, psso, yf, K3; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
Rep this 8 row pattern until the scarf is your desired length.
Two colours
Repeating the pattern four times then changing colour gives a bold stripe.
Three colours
Change the colour after each pattern repeat, then change to the third colour and do about 20 pattern repeats. Finish off the scarf as you began, keeping the pattern symmetrical if you wish.
KNIT TIP: Don't forget to sew in all the loose ends tidily when you've finished.
