Knit baby mittens - three styles, one pattern
These cute mittens with lacy cuffs and ribbons are great for new babies. They look and feel so different depending on which yarn you use, so choose your favourite style from the three shown here. The knitting instructions are the same for all three styles.
A great tip if you’re giving the mittens as a gift is to knit three rather than two - that way if one gets lost, baby will have a spare!
Style 1
Using a plain yarn such as Debbie Bliss Cashmerino really shows up the pattern on the cuff at its best. This soft yarn will feel great against a baby’s delicate new skin.
You will need
- Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, Pink (006), 1 x 50g/125m ball
- 14in (35cm) pink gingham Offray ribbon
- A pair of 3Xmm needles
Style 2
Snowflake DK Magic has the texture of velvet and is soft to the touch. Spun with short soft tufts, this yarn produces a dense knitted fabric that will keep tiny hands nice and cosy.
You will need
- Sirdar, Snowflake DK Magic, Candy Stripe (427), 1 x 50g/170m ball
- 14in (35cm) white Offray ribbon
- A pair of 3Xmm needles
Style 3
The variegated effect of DK prints gives the lacy pattern on the cuff a whole new look. Use this yarn for boys and they’ll look very smart. The addition of ribbon means mittens stay in place.
You will need
- Wendy, Double Knit Prints, Luscious Lilac (991), 1 x 50g/170 ball
- 14in (35cm) white Offray ribbon
- A pair of 3Xmm needles
