Lady Muck receives the ultimate beauty gift

Nail varnish is like the Mulberry bag of make-up – the ultimate accessory that works with every outfit and gets other women’s heads turning.

It's an affordable way to inject some life into your look after a drab and dismal day, something to gaze at during tedious board meetings and an instant glamouriser, a splash of red polish will even sex up your scruffiest jeans. It’s why I have an incredibly well-manicured soft spot for lashings of lacquer.

Give me nudes, neons, brights or a basic French mani; gel, Shellac, matte, crackled, glitter, wraps or plain old polish, I love them all. But why am I harping on about them so much? The answer is this – this week I received a box full to the brim with Revlon nail polishes – yes, a whopping 30 of them. In every colour possible, it was a rainbow of delights that literally had me squealing with delight – me, a grown woman, squealing!

Before I could even pick up the press release, I was tearing off the ribbon and picking each one up – the ‘kid in a sweet shop’ metaphor doesn’t even come close - my eyes were a blur with flashes of baby pink glitter, neon green, concrete grey and duck egg blue.

The reason for this treat was to remind me that this year Revlon turns 80. Yes, the American brand that created the first opaque nail varnish that has been in everyone’s beauty bag ever since is having a big birthday.

As well as prompting me to earmark it in the diary, they’re also launching 20 new nail polishes in celebration of the occasion. With a gorgeous glossy finish and their customary easy to apply brush  that smoothes away pesky air bubbles and streaks, this new collection really does nudge them to the forefront of the nail world.

Producing a range that rivals the nail-only Essie’s and OPI’s of this world, see for yourself when it launches into Boots and Superdrug on 23rd February. Ticking all spring/summer 2012’s trend boxes, I have no doubt you will become just as hooked on the high octane colours as I have. Class dismissed!
