Directions

  1. Preheat oven to //gas mark Oil the bowl and put the greaseproof paper in the bottom.
  2. Put the margarine, sugar, flour and eggs in the large mixing bowl and beat with a wooden spoon until smooth. Stir in the chocolate drops and transfer to the glass bowl.
  3. Level the surface and make a big dip in the centre. Cook in the centre of the oven for about # hours until risen and firm to the touch.
  4. Leave to cool in the bowl then carefully ease it out with the help of a knife around the sides. Leave on the wire rack until completely cold. Set the cake on the plate or board.
  5. Warm the jam in a saucepan then push the jam through a sieve on to the top of the cake. Brush all over the surface to make it sticky.
  6. Dust the work surace with icing sugar, then roll out the icing and cover the cake. Trim the edges with a knife.
  7. Using the back of the knife, score lines from the top centre of the cake to the outside edges. Cut lances in half and arrange them around the outside edge with a small sweet from the bumper pack in between each one for the entrances.
  8. Push tubes of sweets into the top of the cake.
