Modernist chic

Habitat, the sponsor of the V&A's Modernism exhibition, is featuring a collection inspired by the movement. A leather three-seater sofa (£1,599) evokes the spirit of Le Corbusier, alongside a light side table and sculptural flowers. You can make a feature of exposed radiators, even replacing existing ones with designs that have coils and springs which themselves look like modern art. Gem side table clear (£279). Surin clear glass vase (£19).
A fireplace should be the focal point of a room and walls should be kept plain. Choose simple accessories and kitchenware, such as this Serene jug (£15). Furniture should be unfussy, such as the Tallow dining chair (£119), Tam Tam stool (£6) and Lari black gloss dining table (£449). Reproduction poster, £20.
Clutter is the antithesis of the clean Modernist look. For lighting, choose lamps that show their industrial roots, such as the metal Tommy desk lamp (£15). Indoor plants should emphasize the architectural theme - cacti look chic and mirror the strong vertical lines of the furniture. Lecco stacking bookshelf, £150 per piece. Mallory black ceramic vase, £16.
Materials such as glass and chrome look clean and industrial. Bold accents in the Gunta Stolzl rug (£250) and the reproduction poster (£20) add colour. Craft low stool, £39. Ora double wall clock, £20.
