Are women the new 'hidden poor'?
New research reveals having a solid career background might not be enough to give women financial security for lifeOver 2.5 million professional women including teachers and nurses, are living on as little as £114 a week and are struggling to make ends meet. Relationship breakdown, ill health or redundancies are just some of the factors that are forcing women from solid career backgrounds, into dire financial straits.
The findings also say that pride means they struggle on trying to cope for at least a year, before they get help. But in the Elizabeth Finn Trust's experience, short-term financial help can often be enough to get them back on their feet.
And it's not just money worries that women face. Not having someone who they can turn to, to talk about their troubles, makes their situation feel even worse. Dubbed the 'hidden poor', the 2.5 million is predicted to grow to eight per cent of all adult women by 2020.
