Be financially prepared for cancer

The chances are that 1 in 6 of us will get cancer before we're 70*. If you are one of the unfortunate ones, Virgin Cancer Cover could provide the financial assurance you need

The risk of cancer increases with age, but it can still strike at any time. Most of us deal with cancer by pushing it to the back of our minds, preferring not to think about what it would mean for our life, our job, our lifestyle or our mortgage.

But when you think about it, it may make more sense to stop burying your head in the sand, and get covered instead. Then, in the unfortunate event that you need it, you could use the cash lump sum to help you fight back - get alternative treatment, pay the bills, take a 'what the hell' holiday, whatever will help.

The good news is more people survive cancer now than ever before. Medical advances mean it can now be diagnosed earlier and treated better - giving you more of a fighting chance. Especially if you've got time to focus on the important things, like getting well.

What's so great about Virgin Cancer Cover?
You have control. You can either tell us what you can afford to pay each month and over what period, and we will let you know how much cover you'll get for that. Or simply tell us how much cover you think you'd need to protect the things that are important to you (e.g. your family, lifestyle or mortgage) and we'll tell you how much your monthly premium would be. Discounts are given for partners who apply and pay for their policies together. Monthly payments can start from as little as £5 a month.

What else do I need to know?
The only cancers not covered are non-melanoma skin cancers and early forms of cervical cancer.

The policy does not cover benign, non-malignant or pre-malignant conditions (these aren't classified as cancer).

A cancer claim cannot be accepted where the cancer started in the first 90 days of the policy and any unreasonable failure to seek or follow medical advice would mean you won't be covered.

If you've got cancer currently, you will not be offered cover; if you've had cancer in the past, you may not be able to get cover.

Your premium will never alter as a result of any changes in your health or personal circumstances, or because you've already made a claim for cancer. For every customer the cost of cancer cover is reviewed on each five year anniversary of their start date. This will be based on the expectation of future claims and the cost of reinsurance. Your premium may then go up, stay the same or reduce.

*Virgin Cancer Cover can cover you from age 18 to 69.
