Pollen-proof your car
Sneezing and driving don't mix at the best of times, but with the hay fever season upon us, many motorists are suffering. There are common sense precautions hay fever sufferers can take, from keeping a packet of tissues on the dashboard, slowing down if you feel a sneeze coming on, or getting someone else to drive if symptoms are too severe. Car manufacturers are also getting in on the act. Several air conditioning units include a pollen and dust filter, and some cars have air-recirculation systems which help keep you cool and prevent polleny air getting in. Jamjar.com has identified some top models that help keep the outside out, and the driver sneeze-free. Family-friendly MPVs include the Citroen Xsara Picasso Desire and the Volkswagen Touran, both recommended for clean air quality and have pollen filters fitted as standard. All Renaults have an air recirculation system that can be switched on or off while driving in heavy pollen, to stop the pollen getting in. Just remember though, that the air-con system does need regular servicing to keep it dust-free and working effectively.
Bikes for wheelchair users
Being confined to a wheelchair doesn't mean you can't experience the joy of riding your own motorbike. The Conquest 850, a motorised trike, is based on the BMW R850R motorbike and is the first mass-produced motorbike in the UK that can be driven from a wheelchair. Designed with the help of Cyclone Mobility & Fitness, a Merseyside-based bespoke wheelchair manufacturer, the Conquest 850 will provide mobility for disabled bikers. The driver accesses the vehicle by a remotely controlled ramp at the back of the bike, locks the wheelchair in place, then hits the road. Unlike other motorbikes, the Conquest 850 is unique in having a reverse gear, making it much more practical for the disabled user. For more information visit www.martinconquest.com
