The Girls' Guide to Driving Shoes
Everybody knows that Manolos and motorways don't mix, or do they? Its far too tempting when dressed up for a date to just hop into the car without a thought for your footwear. But if your feet slip off the pedals, you, your passengers and other road users could be in serious trouble. And it's not only heels that cause problems. Driving in flip-flops can also lead to problems. The Driving Standards Agency advises that 'Heels and slippery soles can be dangerous on the pedals. Shoes that are too wide, or that easily fall off, can be just as dangerous. Flat shoes are more appropriate than high heels. There is less risk of the foot slipping away, especially from the brake pedal.' Gemma Cartwright, editor of Shoewawa.com, offers some practical alternatives with The Girls' Guide to Driving Shoes.

Will going topless help you pull?
According to a recent poll by esure.com, driving a convertible was seen as a secret 'weapon on wheels in the dating game. It turns out that over one-third of us are more likely to accept a date from someone driving a convertible and that 15 per cent of men admit that they bought their convertible to help them attract women. And it seems to work - 18 per cent of women polled thought convertible drivers had the ultimate status symbol and looked cool.

UKTV People's Car of the Year
Volkswagen's Golf GTi has been voted UKTV's People's Car of the Year 2005. Viewers of the programme were invited to vote for their favourite car and picked the Golf GTi as their favourite family car as well as Car of the Year. Paul Willis, Director of Volkswagen Cars, said 'We are delighted that the Golf GTI has been presented with this award from UKTV People - particularly as it was voted for by viewers. Volkswagen sells more Golf GTis in the UK than in any other country, and so the fantastic reception the latest generation has received from both press and public has been especially important to us.'
