Angelina's demons - why Jolie is too bad for Brad
Babies and parenthood
Fulfilling Pitt's dream of becoming a father has meant making a huge compromise of the actress's beliefs. 'I cannot ever have a biological child because I feel that would be one less child taken out of an orphanage and it would just haunt me,' Jolie insisted before falling for the broody Pitt.
'I know how many kids are out there and if I had one then there would be that one kid in an orphanage who didn't get adopted. I just can't do it. I think we're all meant to do certain things and I'm meant to find my family across the world amongst the kids who are already born.'
All that has now been thrown aside at the arrival of their first child Shiloh Nouvel - their first biological child. But already, new mum Angelina is showing signs of restlessness.
Angelina is making no secret of the fact that she wants to adopt yet another child, despite only having just given birth to their daughter Shiloh Nouvel. A fact that Brad is reportedly not happy about, concerned that their newborn baby will not get the attention she deserves should another child come on the scene so soon.
Brad's too available now?
'When it comes to men Angelina has always liked to be challenged,' says the source. 'She saw Brad as a challenge because he seemed so unavailable to her. She's always loved the danger surrounding unavailable men. She likes to break down barriers.'
Jolie has harboured such thoughts from a young age. 'My first sexual fantasy was Spock,' Jolie has revealed. 'He has that, 'You can't break through to me' thing, and 'You can't touch me' thing, and so he's a challenge.
'You think, 'Oh, I can get him.' I mean, there's got to be something underneath those ears and hair, and it's kinda perverted, I know, but I was just so in love with him.'
And despite their new 'parent status', Angelina is still not ready to commit. Brad has supposedly proposed to her on numerous occasions, but Jolie has told friends that she is addicted to her independence and continues to rebuff his offers.
Like father like daughter?
Even marriage is unlikely to rid Jolie of her dark side or her single-minded approach to life. The sanctimony of wedlock means nothing to the star since her disasters with Thornton and first husband Jonny Lee Miller.
'If the going gets tough, Angelina gets going - and she'll take her kids with her,' adds the source. 'It's something she learnt from her father (Jon Voigt). She'll never stay in a relationship that doesn't work because of what she went through in her marriages and what her parents went through when she was a child.'
'I don't feel sad about the loss of my father,' says Jolie of her long feud with Midnight Cowboy star Voigt. 'I feel sad about all the years that my mum felt the need to keep us together as a family, because maybe her life would have been easier if she could have detached herself from him.
'If you are being honest you shouldn't have to be around somebody who makes you uncomfortable.' Jolie says 'It's all a matter of self-knowledge and growth. I like who I am much more now. I feel very free and ready to live.' Can Brad keep her comfortable without smothering her? Who knows, but should it all go wrong, it will be Brad's turn for tears - Jolie, on the other hand, will undoubtedly walk away without a scratch.
