Splitsville Stunners
Whether it's a new haircut, a great new outfit or finally shedding that half a stone you've been trying to lose, a break-up is a fantastic incentive to make yourself over and feel good about yourself. These A-List ladies show you how to break up with style
Kylie Minogue - upping the style stakes
Just three days after splitting up with Olivier Martinez, 41, in February, 38-year-old Kylie stepped out looking radiant in a stunning violet gown by Dolce and Gabanna for the opening of her exhibition at London's Victoria and Albert Museum. 'I get on with things,' she says of her attitude to the break-up. 'I am a fighter. Not much gets me down.'
Split-up style secrets: Less is more for the new-look Kylie. Gone are the days when she would strut around in gold hot pants.
'I'm at a time in my life when I wouldn't do that again,' she says. However, she won't let her garments swamp her petite frame either. 'If I put big, heavy clothes on it overtakes me,' she adds. 'On photo shoots we've moved away from flesh, not least because it's everywhere you look these days. I know I'm partly responsible for that but to make a picture work, I usually end up in something that's a little closer.'
Drew Barrymore - leaving the comfort zone
The actress has maintained a positive approach since her split from Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, 26, in January, after five years together. 'I am just disgustingly always optimistic,' she says. 'I have such a great life, I can't help but be happy.'
Split-up style secrets: Years of getting comfy with Fabrizio left Drew a little jaded. 'We play board games and drink wine until five in the morning,' she said at the time.
But since finding herself alone again, she has ditched the junk food and unveiled a svelte new look. 'I've been working on myself a lot, especially since turning 30,' she says. 'I've been exercising more and trying to be calmer inside. People put such an onus on your physical looks, weight and your fashion, and I'm like, "Please! Just eat what you want, be healthy, exercise and stop worrying about what other people think."'
Reese Witherspoon - running away from stress
With a new hairdo and a stone lighter, the 31-year-old mum-of-two, who shocked the world when she split from her husband of seven years Ryan Phillipe, 32, looked radiant for her red carpet appearances at the beginning of the year. In a Nina Ricci knee-length gown and a sexy fringe, she showed off her toned shape and sparkling eyes.
Split-up style secrets: Before the split, Reese admitted she and Ryan liked nothing more than sharing a big meal and enjoying quiet time with kids. She said: 'We're usually together and Ryan and I cook a big dinner together and stuff ourselves until we feel sick!'
Now, instead of comfort eating, she has turned to working out to help her cope with her stress over the split. 'My girlfriend and I go running after we drop our kids off at school,' she explains. The actress is also determined to be a good role model with her shape, especially for daughter Ava.
'I remember my mother worrying about how she looked,' she says. 'It confused me. I found it incomprehensible that she couldn't see how beautiful she was. I swore I'd never say anything like that in front of Ava. I have cellulite and I have stretch marks but I don't spend lots of time worrying about it.'
Cameron Diaz - getting out and about
Since splitting with Justin Timberlake after a three-year romance, 34-year-old Cam has been bringing sexy back by looking tanned and healthy. She has been spending time with surfer pal Kelly Slater in Hawaii and was working a glam new look on the red carpet during award season.
Split-up style secrets: Life with Justin meant a lot of travelling but since their split, Cam has been making the most of life outdoors. 'I just love being outdoors, I thrive on it,' she says. 'I love snowboarding. It is a thrill because I love speed, I like to go fast and I love the snow.'
And luckily for Cam, all that exercise means she can tuck into plenty of food like her Mum used to make. 'Cuban food is my comfort food,' she says. 'When I'm stressed, the first thing I need is black beans and rice.'
Life surfing the ocean waves also helps her to accept her shape. 'I'm in a bikini half the time because I love going surfing so it's not uncomfortable to me. I try not to be too worried about my body image,' says Cameron. 'What we women need to do, instead of worrying about what we don't have, is to love what we do have.'
