We've got all you need to spring into summer looking and feeling your best
Melanie Blatt
What have you been doing since your last single 24/7?
I've been at home mainly - working on the new single and the new album, and I also did a collaboration with The Outsiders.
What's the new single Do Me Wrong about?
Its about a guy who does me wrong. Whenever he's not around he goes off and does naughty, horrible things and then when he's with me he's lovely!
On your new album you worked closely with your husband, Stuart Zender. Was it difficult working so closely together?
There were difficult times definitely, but he pushed me to the extreme limits vocally and writing-wise, and I learned a lot from it
He sort of got you back into music, didn't he after the split from All Saints?
Well yeah, because I got a bit put off by the whole experience. But I kept hearing his music coming down the stairs and I was like "ohh I want to do it", so then I did!
Your daughter is four and a half now, how do you juggle your busy music career with motherhood?
Its not been too bad, I think I've had it fairly easy. In this business there are such flexible hours and I've pretty much had the last two and a half years at home being a dead normal mummy.
Would you like to have more kids with Stuart?
I don't really want to plan it, Lilly came about unplanned and its worked out great, so if I fall pregnant then great, but Stuart will have to remain in the country for more than five minutes for me to do so!
You always manage to look trim and glam, what's your secret?
Professional hair and make up! I don't work out and I don't diet. I am riddled with cellulite and broken veins and my tits are down to my knees, so it's all about retouching and post-production!
You were diagnosed with scoliosis when you were younger, can you explain what that is and how it's affected you?
Its genetic and it's basically a curvature of the spine, quite a lot of people actually have it, but it's usually quite slight and you just live with it and maybe do a few exercises. Mine was fairly severe, so I had to get operated on and I have three metal pins all next to each other down my spine.
What do you think of Appleton's new single?
Um. I haven't really heard it, to be honest.
Do you keep in touch with any of the All Saints anymore?
With Shaz I am very close, she's got her single out end of September and she's like a bucket of health, she's health-obsessed and looks amazing and is really happy.
If you could have any other profession, what would it be?
I'd like to think I'd be a window dresser. It's the only other thing I've ever been interested in, and I don't think people do enough with windows. I worked in Benetton for a couple of months and I got promoted to doing the windows and it was all very exciting. Ever since it's the only other thing that I'd ever thought about doing.
Before you became famous you lived in France and almost left to go and live in Spain with friends, selling arts and crafts. What was all that about?
Yes, a moment of madness when I was 15 or 16, and I decided I was going to run away, get married and hitchhike to Spain and sell arts and crafts on the beach. That was the plan, but we barely got about an hour and a half out of our village before my mum found me and dragged me back home!
