Cameron Diaz - 'I feel better with age'
Is there anything you've had to compromise along the way?
Cameron Diaz: 'Not really. All I know is we can't physically stay young forever. All we can do is stay young in spirit, so that's what I'm doing.
I feel I'm ageless when it comes to spirit. I feel that I hold a lot of the same inspiration that I did in my youth, as well as a new inspiration that comes only with age; it's the wisdom I've collected along the way. The marriage of those two things has made me a more fulfilled, more satisfied person because I've been able to maintain that spirit. So I look at ageing in that way.'
Do you follow the cleanse/tone/moisturise mantra religiously now?
Cameron Diaz: 'Oh, definitely - I have to because I wear a lot of make-up in my job. Not only that, but when I'm working I'm out and about and my skin suffers from everything that's coming at it all day long. Sometimes I'll look in the mirror and be like, 'Damn, where did that come from?' Seriously! I'm 35 years old. When is this going to stop?! So now I wash my face every night and I never, ever leave the house without sunblock on.'
What are your views on plastic surgery?
Cameron Diaz: 'Urrgh! Have you seen those shows where ordinary people want to look like Britney Spears or Brad Pitt? What on earth possesses them to want to destroy their own character? To go under the knife to do that is sick. I had to have work on my nose [due to a surfing accident in 2005] but I'd never do anything else. I think beauty comes from the inside.'
You've got loads of famous friends. Who do you go to for advice?
Cameron Diaz: 'My older sister Chimene is my closest friend. We share everything and I feel really fortunate to have that. I have an amazing group of friends, as well, so if my sister's line is busy I've always got several other people I can call. Finding someone to ask is never a problem. I'm really lucky with the wealth of friendships I have.'
One of those friends is Drew Barrymore, who sparked rumours that she's getting hitched to Live Free Or Die Hard star Justin Long. Do you want to get married?
Cameron Diaz: [Long pause] 'I don't know. There are a lot of ways to approach commitment and relationships, and marriage is just one of them. I think partnerships are a wonderful thing, in whatever form they take, and I definitely want that in my life, whether or not it's in the traditional sense.'
