Britain under water - your experiences

The terrible floods in parts of the UK have left families without power and fresh water. Read some iVillagers' first-hand accounts

Hi all, still alive! Things are pretty disastrous here, following floods on Friday. Lucie was stranded at nursery as well as all the other children. I had to wade through waist-deep water to get to the nursery and rescue her. The Fire Brigade turned up soon after and rescued the remaining children!

Britain floodedThe water has now been contaminated and we are without any form of water in our properties for up to 14 days. We have bowsers (pumps) placed about the streets but they don't last long! Power was off for 24 hours due to power station fears of flooding but luckily the military have managed to stop that happening and now power is restored! I can't quite believe it. Everyone is bulk buying; so little bread/milk left in shops!

Well, for now the flood water has gone down, leaving a hell of a mess behind. Every shop in town was hit badly. They won't be back open for weeks if not months as all the floors have collapsed. Pavements have collapsed and windows were smashed from the pressure of the water. The main bridge into town has been closed off as they still think it's going to collapse.

It's got major cracks to it along with another bridge on the other side of town, so we still can't go far. We have been told that the water isn't safe to drink as it's been contaminated. I have done a montage of it all here but it doesn't really show the true extent of the floods, as until the water started to go down I couldn't get near enough to take any pictures. It was way too deep and would have been over my head. It has devastated such a small town and we have been told there is more to come.

Well, I took Thomas to nursery at 12.45pm. It started to rain a little. I got in the car to have my driving lesson and it got harder and harder. It scared the living daylights out of me and I had to pull over for a bit.

Finished driving lesson - had to do a real emergency stop as a car went on the wrong side of the road as he couldn't see for all the water. The road was like a river. I have never ever seen anything like it in my life.

Britain floodedIt had rained so much that my neighbour two doors down rang mum to say my garden was flooded. By the time they got down there with my brother it was millimetres away from seeping into the house. There were firemen down here pumping out water. The lady up the road had raw sewage in her house and the drains overflowed.

The garden is water free-ish at the moment, but its a mess and the grass is a bog. My dog walks on it and it's up to her knees. Thank God that they came down when they did and thank God for my neighbour who rang them!
