Movies by mood: Ten movies to make you laugh

iVillagers recommend the ten movies that put a smile on their face

You know those days when everything goes wrong: you have bad hair, your tights run, you lose your keys, your boss gives you hard time, and he doesn't call? There's nothing better than a side-splitting movie to help lift your spirits. Check out these ten hilarious choices (in no particular order), recommended by iVillagers. You'll want to rent them over and over (and over) again.

1. Valley Girl
'For sure it has to be Valley Girl - the Romeo and Juliet tale set in greater Los Angeles circa 1983. The movie poster says it all: He's Cool, She's Hot, She's from the Valley, He's Not.
My favourite scene is when Randy (played by Nicolas Cage) and his buddy think they can crash a party in the Valley to meet girls. The Val teens are wearing pastel polos and ruffled miniskirt outfits, while the guys from 'Hollyweird' are in studded black vests and red shirts. Of course, when they arrive and try to blend in, people look at them like they're from another planet.'

2. Sister Act
'When I need to laugh, I watch Sister Act. I just love Whoopi.'

3. Moonstruck
'My favourite funny movie line is from Moonstruck, when Cher says: 'Snap out of it!' to Nicolas Cage after he tells her he loves her.'

4. Party Girl
'Party Girl with Parker Posey always cracks me up, no matter when I tune it in. I suppose the moment she masters the Dewey Decimal filing system in the library and dances on the long oak tables to a hip-hop beat is just about perfect comedy in its absurdity.'

5. There's Something About Mary
'There's Something About Mary is so ridiculously funny - just thinking about that movie makes me smile. I can't think about the scene where Ben Stiller gets his pecker caught in his zipper without laughing out loud.'

6. Bridget Jones's Diary
'I loved, loved, loved Bridget Jones's Diary. I especially love the part where the two competing love interests get into a fight. They look like such uncoordinated idiots - which is how two guys fighting would actually look.'

7. Dirty Dancing
'Dirty Dancing - because seeing Patrick Swayze say "Nobody puts Baby in the corner" is always good for a laugh.'

8. The Sure Thing
'The Sure Thing is so great, with John Cusack acting so madcap - like when he jumps in the truck to rescue Daphne Zuniga from the guy who's making a pass at her, and says: "I could be some crazed lunatic. Somebody who'd cut your heart out and eat it just for PLEASURE!" Hilarious!'

9. When Harry Met Sally
'When Harry Met Sally is one of the best romantic comedies of all time. My favourite line is when Harry leaves this message on Sally's answering machine: "The fact that you're not answering leads me to believe that (a) You're not home, (b) You're home but you don't want to talk to me or (c) You're home, desperately want to talk to me, but you're trapped under something heavy. If it's either (a) or (c), please give me a call."'

10. The Big Lebowski
'I love The Big Lebowski because it's really funny and really smart, which is hard to do. My favourite scene has to be when the guys who peed on Dude's rug come back later and drop a ferret into his bathtub - while he's in it!'
