phone boothStarring: Colin Farrell, Kiefer Sutherland, Katie Holmes, Forest Whitaker, Radha Mitchell
Directed by:
Joel Schumacher
Running time: 81 minutes
Cert: 15
Release date: April 18, 2003

What's the story?
Stu Shepard (Colin Farrell) is a small-time publicist. He lies to his clients, his wife, his girlfriend and his employees with unnerving ease and little remorse. He rings his girlfriend Pam (Katie Holmes) from the same phone booth every day to avoid being found out by his wife. One day, as he is leaving the booth, the phone starts ringing and he just can't resist picking up. On the other end of the line is a stalker (Kiefer Sutherland) who seems to know everything about Stu. He claims to be pointing a gun at him from one of the numerous appartment windows above. Unless Stu does exactly as the sniper asks, he will be shot...

phone boothIs it any good?
The entire action of the film takes place in and around the phone booth, yet the film never loses its momentum, largely down to Schumacher's pacey direction. Farrell also commands the audience's attention brilliantly as he conveys Stu's gradual change from cocky wheeler-dealer to a desperate man caught in an elaborate trap. Kiefer Sutherland's calm, collected, self assured and clearly psychotic voice throughout is truly unnerving.

Conclusion
Phone Booth will have you on the edge of your seat right to the last minute, and provide you with a few laughs along the way. It's refreshing to see an action packed film that's only 81 minutes long compared to the 2-hour-long epics we're usually subjected to these days. Go see it - especially if you're keen on 81 minutes of uninterupted Colin Farrell screen time. Hubba hubba!
