What's the story?
When small-time crook Cosimo (Luis Gusmán) is given the scoop on a 'Bellini' - a fool-proof robbery with guaranteed success - by a life-sentence serving cell mate, he grows anxious to break out of jail and pull off the heist of a lifetime. In order to do this he needs a 'Mullinski' - a guy willing to do his time in the slammer for a pay-off. He sends his girlfriend Rosalind (Patricia Clarkson) out to look for somebody desperate enough to take the fall for him.
Try as she might, she fails to find anyone willing to do it, but manages to round up five hapless petty criminals all keen on doing the job themselves. With the help of veteran thief Jerzy (George Clooney) they set about committing the perfect Bellini...
Is it any good?
Welcome to Collinwood has all the makings of a great comedy classic, but doesn't quite pull it off. There's so much potential for some good old-fashioned slapstick farce, but only a handful of the jokes are funny. Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney believed in this project so much they provided their services at considerable losses to themselves, a sign that the Russo brothers may have something stunning up their sleeves in the future - but this certainly isn't it.
Conclusion
Don't be fooled by the film poster. Swoony Clooney's only in it for approximately 15 minutes - admittedly the funniest 15 minutes - particularly the Rabbi scene. But on the whole, this is one to miss.
