What's it about?
There's a rumour going around the local high school that there's a cursed videotape in circulation. Anyone who dares watch it, supposedly receives a phone call seconds afterwards and a strange disembodied voice utters the words `seven days'. Gossip has it that the unlucky viewer inevitably meets a gruesome death exactly seven days later.

When investigative reporter and single mum Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) learns that her niece is among four teenagers who die under suspicious circumstances exactly seven days after watching an un-marked videotape on a holiday retreat together, she is determined to unravel the mystery. She tracks down the tape and watches it...

Is it any good?
Yes, The Ring does what every good thriller should - namely, scare the living daylights out of the audience. Verbinski, who recently directed Pirates of the Caribbean cleverly draws the audience into Rachel's world, sharing her anguish as she desperately searches for the answers she needs against the clock. Naomi Watts is excellent alongside Martin Henderson, who plays Noah, the sceptical father of Rachel's perceptive young son, both of whom become embroiled in the narrative.

Be warned
According to many, The Ring isn't a patch on the original Japanese movie Ringu of which it is a remake, but don't let that put you off. It's still damn scary. Don't watch this alone - particularly not on videotape!
