Home Users
If you are using your computer from home, you probably have a dial-up connection. You can tell if you are using a dial-up connection by looking in the back of your computer and seeing if a phone line is going into the back of your computer. If so, you are either using a 28K, 33K, or 56K modem. Please check with your computer manufacturer or Internet service provider to find out the speed of your connection to the Internet.
Work
At the office, you most likely are on a high-speed connection such as a T1 line or DSL. Be sure to ask your computer support staff if you are unsure.
Tip: Improving your Audio/Video Playback
If you are experiencing poor audio video playback while watching or listening to an iVillage audio videoclip you may want to change your preferences to correct this issue.
Within the preferences tab set your connection speed less than what it is currently set at. For example, if you have a 56k modem and have 56k modem set in your connection speed but are experiencing poor audio video playback, set your connection speed to 28k/33k modem and hit save. You should notice that the audio videoclip plays more consistently.
Tip: High Speed Users: Watch your Videos in Full Screen
If you are using a PC and have selected the Cable Modem/DSL or Broadband/T1 connection speed in the Preferences tab, you can watch your videos in full screen mode. When watching a video in full screen mode your video will fill up your entire monitor so it'll be more like watching TV!
