Ensure your hair is as calm and controlled as your interview technique, with our must-have tips and advice.

Interviews are stressful enough without having to worry about your hair's performance, too. First and foremost, you need to portray a polished and professional image, and first impressions really do count. The interviewer will almost certainly take notice of your presentation and whether you would fit into the company, so it's definitely worth thinking about how you will wear and style your hair - after all, you don't want it falling into your face or obscuring your eyes when you're trying to win that prized position!
In order for you to appear cool, calm and confident, we've put together some sure-fire tips to ensure you take control of both the interview and your hair...
1. On the day of the interview, even if you don't have time to do anything else, make sure your hair is clean, brushed and out of your face.
2. If you're inclined to fiddle with your hair or twirl it round your finger, tie it back so you avoid temptation and prevent distracting the interviewer
3. If your hair is coloured, make sure you have roots tended to before the interview, as regrowth will make you appear untidy and it will look as though you can't be bothered
4. Save trendy styling ideas for parties and clubbing - it's best to go for a fairly classic look, as going overboard on the hair gel or spray could make a prospective employer think that you're more concerned about your image than getting a job
5. If your hair tends to be wayward or uncontrollable, book a professional blow-dry beforehand, which will ensure you appear perfectly groomed and also give you one less thing to worry about
6. If you have long hair, keep it under control by opting for a low ponytail which will look simple, elegant and classic
7. Slip a hairbrush and light hold hairspray into your bag and aim to get to the interview 5-10 minutes early so you can give your hair the once-over after your journey
8. Extravagant or over-the-top hair accessories can also be distracting, so again, save them for your next night out
9. It goes without saying that if you're a smoker, avoid the temptation to sneak a quick one before the interview - as well as making your clothes smell unpleasant, hair that smells of cigarette smoke is very off-putting
