Pin the tail on the donkey

by Ellen Flaks
All children love this old party favourite - there'll be giggles galore when they see where their tail has landed!
  • Ages four and up
  • Two or more players needed
  • Materials: A picture of a donkey (you can make one or buy one) taped to a door or wall, a tail, Blu-Tack, a blindfold
  • Indoor game (or outdoors in an enclosed, safe area)
  • Competitive or non-competitive

How to play

  1. Put a piece of Blu-Tack at the end of the tail
  2. Blindfold the first child (the birthday child during a party) and spin him or her around three times
  3. Face the child in the right direction and ask the child to stick the tail on the donkey. Wherever the child sticks the tail, write the child's name. Remove the tail for the next child's turn (you could also have enough tails for each child and just write his or her name on the tail and leave it up until everyone has had a turn).
  4. Continue until everyone has had a turn

Competitive version: The child who puts the tail in the most correct spot wins.
Non-competitive version: Talk about where each child put the tail: 'Charlie put his tail on the donkey's eye'.
Variations: Change the name of the game to suit the theme of the party: 'Pin the Hat on the Witch' for a Halloween party or 'Pin the Tail on the Dinosaur' for a Dinosaur party, or 'Pin the Nose on the Clown' for a Circus party, etc.
