Red light green light

This is a great game to play outdoors and gets the kids running around
  • Ages four and up
  • Three or more players needed
  • Outdoor activity
  • Non-competitive

How to play

  1. Establish a start and finish line.
  2. 'It' (usually the birthday child at a party) stands at the finish line. The other players spread out across the start line.
  3. 'It' shouts 'green light!', turns away from the players and counts out loud from one to ten, during which time the players run towards the finish line.
  4. When 'it' reaches ten, 'it' shouts 'red light!', and turns back to the players. At the sound of the words 'red light!', the players stop running and freeze.
  5. 'It' or an adult on the sidelines sends anyone still moving back to the start line.
  6. 'It' shouts 'green light!' and the game continues until someone reaches the finish line and tags 'it'. The first person to do that is the next 'it'.
