Four easy Halloween costumes

by Hilary Pereira
continued from page 2
Little devil

You will need

  • A square of red satin roughly the same length as your child's height from the neck down
  • Needle and red thread
  • Shirring elastic
  • Red button and length of red ribbon or a press stud fastener
  • Green garden cane
  • Stanley knife
  • Piece of cardboard (from a cereal box or similar)
  • Red crepe paper
  • PVA glue
  • Red and black face paints, sponge and fine paintbrush
  • Black nail varnish
  • Devil horns headband (available cheaply from party shops and joke shops)
  • Red tights

What to do

  1. Make a cape by following points 1 and 3 for Little Witch. Attach a red button and red ribbon loop or a press stud fastener to the collar of the cape.
  2. Using a Stanley knife, make an incision downwards through the centre of the garden cane to a depth of about 2cm. Cut a fork-head shape about 10cm across from a piece of cardboard and cover it with red crepe paper, using PVA glue. When dry, push the fork head firmly down into the slit in the garden cane.
  3. Paint your child's face, neck and hands with red face paint. Add a devilish moustache in black and some dark shadows under his eyes. Paint his nails with black nail varnish.
  4. Top off with a headband of devil horns and red tights under shorts. If your child has a red long-sleeved T-shirt, so much the better!
