Scarefest at Alton Towers

by Tracey Williams

Prepare to be (very) scared when you visit Alton Towers this Halloween. From mild thrills to truly terrifying encounters, there are spooks galore during Scarefest

We headed to Alton Towers for the annual Scarefest - quite an event in the park's calendar. The scene is set throughout the park and the two resort hotels, with pumpkins, Halloween statues, lights, spooky music and Scarefest characters who roam the resort.

Don't be surprised to see many people in full Halloween regalia - the 'spirit' of things is most definitely entered into by park guests.

As well as the permanent big rides such as Air, Nemesis, Oblivion and Rita - Queen of Speed (all deemed 'wicked' by our own thrill-seeking team), Scarefest offers some spine-tingling rides and experiences just for the event.

Within the park itself, you can stop by the Trick or Treat Doors, where witches Millicent, Molly and Meg entertain the children and hand out tricks - and treats. Duel, in residence at the manor house in Gloomy Wood, takes the fright level up a notch with some new inhabitants - according to the most daring members of our party, it's not for the fainthearted!

The Terror of the Towers (not suitable for children under 14) is set within the Gothic Towers, which have been possessed by an evil force, so be prepared to jump out of your skin as your find out 'what lies within'. And don't forget Hex - The Legend of the Towers, perfect for Scarefest: discover the curse of the Chained Oak and be amazed at the spectacular ride finale.
